New ExploreBaltimoreCounty.com provides a comprehensive local news site

Baltimore Interactive last month launched a new website dedicated to in-depth and ongoing coverage of Baltimore County. With coverage from community newspapers including the Towson Times, Owings Mills Times, and Catonsville Times, among others, the new site will offer consumers a new way to find out what's going on in their communities. Interactive blogs - updated regularly by staff editors and reporters -- will encourage local residents to comment on the news, creating greater engagement with the site.

Interactive staff members promoted

Two Baltimore Interactive staff members have been promoted recently to senior sales representative. Andrea Wheeler, who handles the rental category, joined the company's sales staff in June 2002 and has turned in consistently fine performances each year since. Brett Wolfsheimer, who handles the automotive category, joined in 2005 and in 2007 was named the "Cars.com salesperson of the Year" from among candidates in 190 markets across the country. Congratulations to both!

Online video surges

In February 2008, internet users viewed 10 billion videos, a 66 percent increase over February 2007, according to comScore, a leading web measurement firm. At Baltimore Interactive, we've been ahead of the curve, establishing our own advertising video products and services more than a year ago.

And national media research firm Borrell Associates estimates that online video ads on newspaper sites will grow from less than 5 percent of total advertising in 2007 to 28 percent in 2012. Meanwhile, a 2007 Pew Internet & American Life Project study found that 57 percent of online video users (67 percent of 18-29 year olds) send video links to others and 75 percent receive video links.
