Rich Media
baltimoresun.com offers a number of unique and eye-catching rich media advertising options, including custom video ads, interstitial advertisements, corner peel banners, sliding billboards, expandable banners, companion ads, and floating ads.
Expandable Ads example
These ads consist of a base image displayed in the ad space of a webpage. When a user scrolls over the base, an expanding panel appears overtop the webpage content. When a user scrolls off of the ad or clicks close, the ad reverts back to the base image. Clients have the option of creating the individual elements of their rich media ads themselves and baltimoresun.com can insert the "rich media" functionality.
Peelback Ads example
Corner peel or peelback ads display a teaser image in the ad space on a web page. When the user scrolls over the teaser, the full ad is revealed. When the user clicks the close button, the ad reverts back to the teaser. Corner peel ads are available in a variety of sizes and are limited to a frequency cap of 1 per user per day.
Sliding Billboard example
A sliding billboard ad will appear on the homepage, a section front or story level page. An expanding panel will push down the web page content and stay open for 6 seconds. When the panel closes there is a "pencil" base image left above the ad that the user can click on to re-trigger the panel. These ads are restricted to a frequency cap of one per user per day.
Interstitial
Interstitial ads are full page ads that appear before the content of our webpage loads. The interstitial ad will display for up to 10 seconds and then close automatically, or it can be manually closed by the user. When the ad closes it will reveal the web page that is behind the ad. These ads are restricted to a frequency cap of one per user per day.
Floating Video Ads example
Floating video ads are spokesperson-type ads that display video of a person talking in front of the content of baltimoresun.com. A floating video ad will load overtop the content when a user visits the homepage of baltimoresun.com and disappear at the conclusion of the ad. These are video-based ads and require translucent fla video files or Quicktime video files with an alpha-channel intact. These ads appear on the baltimoresun.com homepage or section fonts. These ads are restricted to a frequency cap of one per user per day.
Free-Form Floating Ads example
Free-Form floating ads are flash-enabled banner ads with multiple elements appearing both inside of the ad space and over the page content. A base ad will function in conjunction with a floating component appearing over top the web page content. This floating element is generally a flash-based animation used to attract the reader and generate interest. These ads cannot appear on pages containing search results. These ads are restricted to a frequency cap of one per user per day.
